Teen Philanthropy

The JCFC continues to partner with B’nai Brith Calgary Lodge #816 and Calgary Lodge Menorah Foundation in delivering our Teen Philanthropy Program located at Camp BB Riback. To date, the JCFC has taught 226 Leadership Training Program (LTP) campers about the importance of giving back to their community.
The Philanthropy Camp Program invites youth to explore Jewish values, and contribute to building strong Jewish communities. We offer Grade 10 students a full-day immersion into philanthropy. Participants are introduced to key aspects of the philanthropic process, including consensus-building activities, developing mission statements, and grantmaking decisions. The program culminates in the teens awarding a $1500 grant to a variety of Alberta nonprofit organizations.
Most participants arrive with some experience in service projects or charitable fundraising, gained through B’nai Mitzvah initiatives. The Teen Philanthropy Program builds on this foundation, strengthening their ability to make thoughtful, responsible and community-minded decisions both independently and collaboratively.
